I’m Heather Lomas and this is Calluna Consulting.

Born and brought up in Cornwall, like many others I moved away for work opportunities. I worked in retail and racing stables, moved to Ireland, built an eco-house, ran a smallholding and started to volunteer in the local museum. I learnt lots of practical skills and gained an interest in environmental and historical issues. I moved back to England to undertake a BSc degree in Conservation of Decorative Objects, as a mature student.

I worked at Marylebone Cricket Club Museum, Lord’s Cricket Ground for over 13 years, and previously volunteered at The London Fire Brigade Museum, The Natural History Museum and The Hunt Museum, Ireland.

I have been extremely fortunate to work with some amazing and iconic objects, ensuring their long term preservation. I have cared for decorative & fine arts, sporting collections, photographs, textiles, social & natural history collections and archive objects. I have experience in cataloguing, preventative conservation, condition reports, research and exhibition design and install.

During my professional career I spotted a need for private collectors and small museums to be able to access short term help on an ad hoc basis. Recently I decided to return to the ‘homeland’, and I now want to share the knowledge I have gained to help collectors, clubs, sporting organisations and museums to support their collections.

  • I aim to help private collectors look after those things which are special to them, ensuring they have a record of their collection and know how to protect it.
  • I offer museums collections management services that will ensure they comply with SPECTRUM standards of care and accountability.
  • For private and public clubs and organisations, who might not even realise they have a collection, I can give practical advice on simple cataloguing and object care.

I am available for a telephone conversation, a one day site visit, one-off projects or regular visits.
